Tell Me…Would Ya!

‘See sometimes, I meet new people’ she says. A middle aged woman at the front of the theater. Lights on her. Reading glasses on.

I sit thinking ‘Is that gonna be me someday?’

I get back to what she’s saying

‘I ask people: What are you good at? she says. ‘You know what, most go: ‘Uhhh I don’t know” she says with a melodramatic expression. Arms flung in the air.

However I pause. I would respond the same way. Is it because I don’t want to be seen as conceited? Or is it cause I don’t know actually?

‘You see, we all have gifts/talents passions. We should not be wasting them. We should embrace them and go with them.’ she says with a sense of conviction about her.

I sit. Think. What am I good at?

‘I am good at being a Mom. But I am NOT good at being a singer. There are many times when we pine after being good at something that perhaps we may never be good at and lose track of what we are actually good at. Instead we try so desperately to be good at something and become jealous or even enviousness of those who have what we want.’ she says.

That hit me.

‘Why don’t you use what you’re good at. Let those other people shine who have different talents from you?’ she questions the audience. Me.

———-

There are days when I want more of this, less of that, to do this, to be perfect at this.

But…seriously…we are all gifted in so many ways. We have SO much about us that is amazing.

So..Tell Me…Would Ya! What are three things you are GREAT at? Don’t hold back…praise yourself!

I am good at never giving up. I am an awesome mom. Thankfully you didn’t ask what I wasn’t good at 🙂

i type really fast- remarkably fast when i am not looking at the screen and having a completely different conversation with someone as I type. (my coworkers are amazed by this and I am often asked to do “office circus tricks” such as type the lyrics to the national anthem as they ask me questions about other things. ha.)

i am pretty sure i could win the world tetris champainship (you think i’m kidding, but im not.)

And I’m a pretty good penpal.

    On a different note:
Yesterday, I did in fact, for the first time ever, realize and admit that I do indeed like my writing voice.
I am also blessed with the gift of “encouragement”.
And I’m pretty good at being a small group leader.

I am good at languages–I make my living as a translator/interpreter.

I am good at stripping away the crap, getting to the heart of an issue or problem and looking for concrete solutions. (Is that three right there?)

    I am a good mom.

    Short and sweet.

P.S. I just discovered your blog and LOVE it.

    Greetings!

Saw your Tweet, and decided to do a fly-by and see what was up. 😀

Hmmm… I would say channelling, creating, and seeing the connections between things are three things that I’m good at.

    Great post! 🙂
Bright Blessings & Good Fortune! 🙂

    Just found your blog.

    I love this.

It’s so true. And I would respond the exact same way. “I don’t know”!

I’m great at 1) massages :), 2)looking after kids and 3)singing (i thought about not including this because i always feel uncomfortable saying i’m a good singer, but you said not to hold back so I’m throwing it out there!)

This is hard because I don’t think most peple think about what they’re good at. Here are 3 of mine:
    -baking
-spoiling my spotted mess of a dog
    -organization
I need to find some fun things I’m good at! 🙂

    1. I am good at being patient. Something I never knew I had in my until I became a mother.
    2. I am good at gardening. Both perenial flowers or veggies. I love mixing colors and textures to get beautiful colors in my front garden from spring to fall.
    3. I am good at scrapbooking and playing with paper. I love to tear it and get different textures that help the picture pop or tell the story of the picture. Also like preserving our story for future generations to see.

I’m great at making Hunni smile. And I think I’m pretty great at quilting even if I never follow the rules. And I think I’m a pretty great daughter who loves her mom and family and would do anything for her.

And lastly I’m great at perserving with life even when it gets me down in the pits. I’ve been through hell over the years and still come out smiling.

I’ve been thinking a lot about that lately and I almost think I need to ask the people around me. I’m on the verge of some potential life changes and need to really think about that- what am I good at, what do I like doing… They seem like simple and easy questions, but they aren’t.
